The ancient city of Caunos was founded around the 9 th Century BC. Archaeological remains include tombs in the Lycean style, medieaval walls of the acropolis and a Roman fountain dedicated to Vespersianus as well as remains of four temples and Roman baths.
This is a place of great interest in historical and geological terms as it is thought that the silting of the harbour caused the prosperity of Caunos to be threatened, resulting in the city eventually being abandoned.
